Secrets of Painting with Acrylic Paint



Oil paint and acrylic paint are one of the favorite mediums of Artists. Both are different from each other due to their drying time and texture. Oil paint is oil based and acrylic paint is water based. Another major difference is their drying time. Acrylic paint dries faster as compared to oil paint. As an Artist, painter and art lover  you can understand the difference between Acrylic  and oil paint very easily, but sometimes you can see people comment like” what a beautiful work in oil paint” even that work is done in Acrylic paint. If we try to discern actually what it is about acrylic that people think it may be oil paints. Here may be the exact reason behind this:
 This is just because of painting technique of a painter. Acrylic paints have a plastic look at the first scene, but with practice and patience you can improve your work and can create Work in Acrylic paint that looks same as an oil paint. Here are 2 tidbits of advice that would be helpful for you.
1.       The different paint brands; even  newer  and thicker brands of acrylic are available these days. Acrylic paint cannot hold a candle of oils. You can use thickeners  with your acrylics, these are additives that can dilute the pigments, but still they do not hold up flow as nicely as oils. So try to use more and more paint to emulate the oil painting texture.  
2.       No matters, in which medium you are working, just treat them the same and do not change your movements or strokes. The only difference is working dark to light or light to dark. Strokes will remain the same.

These  are some tips and tricks to create tremendous work in acrylic that look like as oil paint, but If you are a good painter, you need not to do this because your technique alone will serve you well.
